Lands End Lookout Exhibition & Store
Macchiatto designed the interior experience of a combined visitor center and retail store at Lands End (San Francisco) for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Like its sister facility, the “Lookout” weaves interpretive information about Lands End into retail displays for a new paradigm in visitor centers. Reclaimed natural materials were used in abundance in this LEED Gold building, including the cardboard ceiling elements, laser-etched with interpretive graphics. They delineate an interpretive theme (sustainability), absorb sound and help hide the lighting. Macchiatto assisted in architectural programming and designed the interior experience, including interpretive displays/graphics, retail fixtures, lighting and A/V design, as well as all exterior signage. Lands End Lookout was recently awarded an Honor Award by the AIA. Architecture: EHDD; Exhibit Fabrication: Cinnabar.
